(Aachen) In the face of growing nationalism and Islamophobia in Europe, the question once again arises: What can we learn from the past? Shortly before the holidays, a case study on the economic impact of religious tensions in the 16th and 17th centuries is published. Under the title "When historiography meets reality. Reformation and Economy using the Example of the Brass Industry" Robert Peters examines the influence of political and social upheavals in the wake of the Reformation on the decline of the brass trade in Aachen and Stolberg's rise to become the new market leader in Europe.
